Fish and chip van hire, fried fresh at your event · London and the South East

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about hiring a fish and chip van.

Where do you take the van?

Across London and the South East: London, Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight. Find your area.

Is the food cooked at the event?

Yes. We fry fresh in the van, to order, and serve straight from the hatch.

What’s on the menu?

The classics: cod, haddock, chips, sausages and pies, with mushy peas, curry sauce and gravy. See the menu.

Can you cater for dietary needs?

Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll tell you honestly what we can offer. Our batter is made with flour, so standard battered fish contains gluten.

How much does it cost?

It depends on numbers, the menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your event and we’ll send a quote, or read our cost guide.

What do you need at the venue?

A level, firm spot the van can drive onto, close to where people will eat, with room for a queue. Tell us about gates, lanes and soft ground.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can. Summer Saturdays and December Fridays book up first. Ask about your date even if it’s soon.

How much space does the van need?

A level, firm spot it can drive onto and park on safely, with room for a queue at the hatch. Tell us about gates, narrow lanes, soft ground and overhead branches or cables.

What if it rains?

We cook inside the van, so rain doesn’t stop us. Think about cover for your guests near the hatch, such as a gazebo or a covered doorway.

How long are you on site?

It depends on numbers and service time. We arrive in good time to set up, serve at the agreed time and pack up afterwards; we’ll agree the timings with you.

Can you park on grass?

If the ground is firm and dry enough, often yes. After heavy rain, soft grass can be a problem for any vehicle, so tell us about the ground and have a back-up spot in mind.

Do we need to provide power or water?

Tell us what’s available at the site when you enquire, and we’ll confirm what we need.

Is the fish gluten-free?

Standard batter is made with wheat flour, so battered fish contains gluten. Tell us about coeliac guests and allergies when you enquire, and we’ll tell you honestly what we can offer.

Do you cater for children?

Yes. Sausage and chips is a favourite. Include children in your numbers.

Can you trade at a fête or festival?

Yes. Organisers can book us as a trader or to feed crew and volunteers. See festivals, fêtes and school events.

Do you cater wakes at short notice?

Ask as soon as you have a date and we’ll tell you straight away whether we’re available. See funeral and wake catering.

Do you travel outside the South East?

Our town pages cover London and the South East. For events further afield, ask us.
