Fish and chip van hire in Preston

About our fish and chip van hire in Preston

Rain does not stop a fish and chip van, because the fryers are inside. It’s a dependable choice for events in any season. We’re often asked to cater wakes and celebrations of life and garden parties and summer get-togethers, with curry sauce, gravy and sausage and chips.

In a smaller place like Preston, a garden party with the van on the drive is frequently the simplest option: no hire fees, and fish and chips for everyone without anyone stuck in the kitchen. Tell us about access down the lane or drive. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the service time and the menu.

Is a fish and chip van right for your event?

Cold buffets are easy but forgettable, and nothing’s hot on a cool evening. A chip van cooks to order and serves hot. Compared with a sit-down meal, a fish and chip van is often good value, because it needs no kitchen and no crockery hire. We will send you a quote.

Why book with us

  • A van that becomes part of the event
  • Hot food handed straight over
  • Classic food your guests already know
  • Rain doesn’t stop the fryers

Food your guests will love

Haddock and chips

Haddock has loyal fans: a firmer flake and a sweeter taste. Tell us if you’d like to offer it.

Mushy peas

Mushy peas are made from dried marrowfat peas, soaked and cooked until soft. They’re the side most people expect.

What the van needs

The right spot keeps everyone safe and the service smooth. We need:

  • Permission from the venue or landowner for the van
  • Lighting nearby for evening events
  • A clear area by the serving hatch

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.

From the hatch

  • Mushy peas
  • Sausage and chips
  • Gravy
  • Curry sauce

Preston: venues, parking and local tips

Preston is about 1 mile north-west of Brighton, in Brighton and Hove. Preston is well within our area, so all we need is your date, a parking spot and a time to serve. We take the van to 30 places in Brighton and Hove, from the larger towns to small villages.

If guests are travelling by rail, Preston has its own station, Preston Park station. After a service at St John the Evangelist's Church, the van can be waiting at a nearby hall or house. Preston is within about 6 miles of the South Downs National Park. Ask your venue about vehicle access. Preston is within about 2 miles of the sea, so fish and chips feels right at home here. Sea breezes can be strong, so we think about where the queue will stand.

Here we cover the BN1, BN3 and BN88 postcode area. From Home Road, Bates Road and Loder Road or a nearby road, we’ll bring the van to you. Why choose fish and chip van hire in Preston?

Hot food on a cold or wet day is hard to beat, and the cooking carries on inside the van whatever the weather.

If you are planning any of these, we can help:

  • Village fêtes and school fairs
  • Festive get-togethers
  • Visits to care homes and day centres
  • Gatherings after a funeral

If you are organising a summer fair for a school like St Bernadette's Catholic Primary School, a chip van is a crowd-pleaser.

What your quote should include

  • Whether travel is included
  • The deadline for final numbers
  • How many hours the van serves
  • Exactly what’s included in the price

15 questions to ask before booking

What a fish and chip van costs

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • The length of service
  • Travel, tolls and road charges
  • The number of meals
  • Parking and the way in

The date matters too: summer Saturdays and December Fridays are the busiest days of the year. Ask about your date early.

What to tell us

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Your date and serving time
  • The spot you have in mind for the van
  • Roughly how many people, including children
  • Anything awkward about the way in

Still finalising the details? No problem: tell us the basics about your event, and we’ll firm it up nearer the time. Start when you’re ready: send us your details through our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

We need to know about dietary needs and allergies in advance, and we’ll be straight with you about what’s possible. To get it right:

  • Put bins and napkins by the van
  • Keep the menu short to keep the queue moving
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Have a back-up for anyone who cannot eat from the van

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We park, set up, fry and serve, and stay in touch about any changes.

Somewhere to sit or lean makes fish and chips easier to eat.

Cannot we just order from the chip shop?

For a small group, making your own food can work. For larger numbers, or when you want hot food, a van takes the pressure off, and you get to enjoy the day.

Deep-frying for lots of people at home is risky: hot oil and a busy party are a bad combination. Leave the frying to a van built for it.

Preston questions

Can the van go to venues in the South Downs National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles and ground, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.

Could you trade in Preston Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Do you cover Preston?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Preston and the rest of Brighton and Hove. To check your date, send us your details through our quote form.

Is there something for children?

Of course. Sausage and chips is a favourite with children. Tell us how many are coming.

Do you take everything away?

We take the van and everything with it, and leave the spot tidy. Bins for guests are worth planning.

Can you park on the road outside?

It depends on the road. Off-road parking is usually simpler; for the street, check the council’s rules.

Can we choose cod or haddock?

Tell us your preference when you book and we’ll confirm what we can offer.

Does a chip van work for big events?

It can be. Give us your numbers and service time, and we will tell you honestly how service will work.

How the day works

We arrive in good time before you want to eat, set up and bring the oil up to temperature. Guests typically gather round the hatch as soon as we open. Around midsummer it stays light in Preston until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting by the van.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check access for the van and quote.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. Fish goes into the batter and straight into the fryer, to order.
  5. We serve hot from the hatch and pack up when we’re done.
